The idea for this styled shoot developed after visiting the ‘Frida Kahlo: Making Her Self Up’ exhibition and the V&A museum. I was drawn to the rich, vibrant colours of the Oaxaca flowers in the traditional Mexican clothing that she wore. I decided to create my own take on the floral patterns, modernising the colours and giving them a delicate feel by using watercolours to paint them.
After creating the full invitation set, the look and feel for the rest of the shoot came together quickly using modern trends such as acrylic and gold foiling alongside the vibrant colours of the flowers. To create the look we choose pink and red shoes from Italian shoe brand Faber Novella teamed with an untraditional, relaxed silk slip dress by Belle and Bunty and wild florals featuring wild poppies and ranunculus with lots of greenery.
Using gold accents, such as the foil on the invitation, the mirror acrylic place names and beautiful back drop necklace by Britten, we added some glamour to the whole look and feel of the shoot.
We wanted to inspire couples to not be afraid of using colour in bold ways to create a fun, impactful look for their wedding day that reflects their personalities.
